What Is the Asian Cup?
The men's Asia Cup is a biennial cricket tournament organized by the ACC (Asian Cricket Council). The competition is contested by the Asian member's senior men's national cricket teams that determine the champion of the Asia continent. The tournament was established in 1983 with the aim to promote goodwill among the Asian Countries. India continues to be the defending champions after winning the 2023 edition.
However, the first edition of the tournament was held in 1984 in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, where the council's office was based until 1995. India Boycotted the 1886 tournament due to the strained cricketing relations with Sri Lanka, Pakistan boycotted the 1990–91 tournament due to the strained relations with India, and the 1993 tournament was cancelled for the same reason. Again, after the gap, the ACC announced that the tournament would be held biennially from 2009 onwards. Since then, ICC has ruled that all the games played in the Asia Cup will have ODI status. The rise of the sports leagues in India has paved the way for this initiative.
