Mostly, the badminton and the shuttle sound similar to the people. But do you know that they are different from each other? Though they possess some similarities, they do have some differences that make them distinct from each other. But what are they? Here, I have come up with this blog where I will explain their differences. So, scroll through the blog to know more.

What Is Badminton?

Badminton is a sport where the player uses a racket to hit the shuttlecock against the opponent over the net. Although badminton matches are played in the yard, beach or larger landscapes, there are several types of badminton courts which one can choose while playing badminton. The points in badminton are scored by striking the shuttlecock with the racket while batting against the other team. Badminton originated in the Middle East in the 19th century under British rule from the shuttle, which was popular during sports, which clearly shows that badminton originated from the shuttle. In the badminton game, the shuttlecock should not touch the ground, and both players must keep the game going without letting the shuttlecock down. However, it also played doubles when the players were made to stand behind to cover the court.

What Is a Shuttle?

On the other hand, the shuttle is a game that uses a shuttlecock to play, which has been played for 2000 years in India. The shuttlecock is an ancient game surviving after several centuries. The shuttle game was in existence even before tennis and badminton, which also included balls and other playing objects in the match.

The shuttle is played only with two or more players in the game, making the game different from badminton. Shuttles were not played in tournaments, but the players played it with the shuttlecock which was made of a bird's feather on the top and at the bottom and a plastic type of material used. The scoring systems were also different depending on the game, as it was played either in teams or in a circle of individuals. The shuttle can be better defined as the ancestor to several batting sports at amateur levels.

What Are the Main Differences between Badminton and the Shuttle?

Usually, both the shuttle and badminton interchangeably look similar because the use of the shuttlecock is similar in the game. Still, when we look up to them, they do have certain differences, which I have mentioned here.

Court

Both can be considered as a team sport. The shuttlecock doesn't use courts at all and can be played anywhere along the long fields, yards, beaches, and parks, but badminton mostly needs a court and a proper set of equipment, allowing the players to play properly.

Shuttlecock

Both the shuttle as well as badminton use the shuttlecock as an object to play the game. However, the shuttle involves the same object but might differ in the material in which they are made in both games.

Area

When you play a badminton game, you might search for the courts or some places along with a person with whom you can play; but when you play shuttle, you might not need to search for some well-equipped places as well as the equipment but might need a group to play the game. Here, you don't have to search for a court.

Scoring

Another difference between badminton and the shuttle is the scoring systems between both games. In badminton, both players have to score 21 points in the game and need to win. But in the shuttle, there are no pointing systems and you have to keep on playing until the shuttlecock reaches the ground. In the shuttle, the game doesn't end up with the points but when the players drop the shuttle down.

Both the badminton as well as the shuttle have similarities and are more or less similar, but possess some minor differences between them. Hence, these are some of the differences that you need to know.
